Health, Safety, Environment & Quality
We believe that the safety of our workforce and those around us should receive the highest priority. To this end we have developed a Safety Management System that has been audited and registered with the ISO 45001 - Safety Management Systems.

We have also developed and improved our approach to the environment and through an external audit and have been accredited with ISO 14001 - Environmental Management System.

Rock & Alluvium also operate an externally audited ISO 9001 - Quality Management System ensuring quality delivery, customer focus and continuous improvement.

We ensure the four pillars of safe working are provided:

• A Safe Working Environment
• Effective Supervision

• Federation of Piling Specialists (Fully Audited)
• CHAS - Health & Safety Management

To ensure Health & Safety is always the top priority of all our staff we created the Richard Brown Memorial Shield, this is awarded to the Foreman and Piling Team who have made the most pro-active contribution to safety each year.

Rock & Alluvium have an extensive Health and Safety Policy which is continuously assessed and has been developed from our vast experience in piling over the last 50 years.

Some of the requirements we have:

• Piling platform must be designed and constructed for the safe operation and manoeuvring of the piling rig.
• High pressure concrete pipelines to be regularly inspected for wear.
• Banksman must control the rig movements.
• Mechanical auger cleaner to be used, in order to prevent hazard from falling materials.
• A manual handling assessment to be made prior to lifting operations.
• Projecting pile reinforcement to be fitted with protective 'mushroom' caps.

Rock & Alluvium recognise the need to reduce our environmental impact and carbon footprint to help ensure a long-term sustainable future. We have already introduced many measures to achieve this aim:

• Technology: Provide the latest technology to the site workforce and office staff including mobile tablet computing on site and video conferencing in the office to reduce travel time and resource usage
• Piling Rigs: Maintain and update our piling rig fleet and other plant to ensure we have the latest, most efficient and low environmental impact equipment
• Depot: Review our use of resources at the Depot to reduce waste to landfill to negligible amounts
• Sites: Monitor and review our carbon usage across our sites and record our waste figures on a monthly basis
• Office: Various schemes and benefits for all our staff such as cycle to work, vehicle sharing and charity work days
